| The schoolhouse had major repair work done. The sagging east wall had the sagging taken out due to some heavy lumber and a lot of effort. Sills and floor joists were repaced and additional support was installed. | |
| July 5, 2002 | The Fourth of July Picnic was a big success. Hamburgers,
hot dogs, and fixins were served, Charles Branson and Nathaniel Atterberry
played guitars and sang, Mitch James emceed and sang The Star Spangled
Banner and Amazing Grace. Rep. Randall Erwin paid a visit, and Buster MacDaniels
gave a brief speech. The volleyball game lasted almost three hours, and
the horseshoe pit was broken in. Dee Tidwell allowed use of a special American
flag that flew from the flagpole next to the backstop. Inside the schoolhouse,
at least while it was daylight, some played air hockey and pool. After
everyone had eaten, played, and visited, near twilight the kids began to
pop their fireworks past third base. Darkness fell on the kiddos who were
having lots of fun lighting up the air, then it was the big kids' turn.
The fireworks display was made possible through a collection taken up in
the valley a few weeks leading up to the Fourth, and a fun display it was.
It was estimated that about 100 people visited at some time or another, and many people contributed. Thanks to everyone involved, a lot of work was needed and given, and folks are already looking forward to what can be done next year. |
| July 27, 2002 | Potluck Dinner and picnic in the evening. Bring a dish and enjoy a day of food and fun. A ball game is scheduled, so bring a glove if you have one, the center has got a few. |
