February, 2005 CERT training schedule has been finalized.   The fine CERT folks from the Talihina were gracious enough to volunteer their time and efforts so that we might get CERT certified.  State funding for CERT trainers has been eliminated or reduced, so this is all on the trainers' dime, and we thank them.
To get certification, you will be required to attend each of the three sessions scheduled. Anyone interested may attend, and there is no cost to you for this training. CERT is a community based effort that allows citizens to be trained to react to major disasters, both natural and man-made. The training will be held at the Senior Citizens' Center in Honobia. If the location changes, participants will be notified.
  The schedule is as follows:
Friday, February 18 5-10PM
Friday, February 25 5-10PM
Saturday, February 26 8AM-5PM.

Refreshments will be provided for all sessions, and lunch will be provided for the Saturday session.

February, 2005 Honobia VFD was awarded another FEMA grant to obtain a tanker. This is a continuation of the project started with the 2003 FEMA grant to improve water handling capabilities. Any fires in this district is a challenge, due to the lack of any fire hydrants in the area. With the 2003 grant, we were able to obtain some pumps to get water out of creeks, rivers, ponds, etc., and for collapsible tanks to store water on-scene and at the water source. The tanker will better enable us to move water between source and scene. We believe this to be the last major piece required for this department to try for an ISO 8 rating.
February, 2005 In a special election, John Clawson was re-elected as chief to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Floyd Branson as chief in January.  Floyd wishes to become a firefighter only at this time. We all want to thank him for his service, and for a job well done. Thanks, Floyd!  Also, Erman Sands was elected as assistant chief, to fill that vacancy. Regular elections will be held at the annual meeting in September.
January, 2005 NFIRS reporting has been accomplished for the first time. Each of 2004's incidents have been reported using the NFIRS 5.x reporting tool. This allows us to turn in incident reports online, and it also makes the annual report to the State Fire Marshal's office unnecessary, as they can get required data directly from the NFIRS system.  We have chosen to use the standard NFIRS forms for incident reports, and obsoleted the existing forms.
Nov. 2004 Chili Cookoff....we have a winner!
Nov. 2004 CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) training coming soon....details and schedules to be posted when available.
Sept. 2004 The final phase of the FEMA grant is completed. FEMA agreed to allow us to use funds earmarked for a different category to be used to obtain new turnout gear, which was received Sept. 28 from Affordable Fire of Mannford, OK. This gear was manufactured in 2001, but has never been used, and meets current NFPA standards. We will complete the reporting requirements of the FEMA grant this month, and close out the grant.  Many thanks to FEMA and Affordable Fire for allowing us to upgrade our equipment.
We will also be taking delivery of an AED (defibrillator) to help first response to victims of heart attacks.
Sept.2004 Annual elections were held this month at the station.  Chief Floyd Branson was reelected, as was Asst. Chief John Clawson.  Board Chair Karen Pierce was also relected, as was Jon Davis as Board Member.
Sept. 2004 Spaghetti Dinner recently held at the fire station was a great success, thanks for all who supported and attended.
