Nov, 2003 The Fire Department has purchased a flotation pump with funds from a grant from KEDDO with the assistance of State Senator Kenneth Corn. This pump will allow water delivery from many more sources of water that were previously unavailable.
July 27, 2003 FEMA announced today that the application for a Fire Act grant was awarded to the Fire Department for fire fighting equipment and training. The grant, for $11,200, will be used to purchase high volume and portable water pumps, collapsible storage tanks and fittings to improve water delivery for our district and our nieghbors. Honobia has one dry hydrant in this district, so we have to look for creeks, ponds, Little River, and even swimming pools to get the water supply needed for any suppression effort. This equipment will help us to not only get the water, but delivering it to where it is needed.
Even more importantly, part of the grant is for firefighter training, so the volunteer firefighters have the opportunity to receive needed training.
July 4, 2003 The Fourth of July Picnic will be held on the schoolhouse grounds Friday, July 4th. It'll actually be on the Fourth for a change.  Hamburgers, hot dogs, etc., will be provided by the Fire Department, the Senior Citizens Center,  and the Community Center, but a pot luck dish or dessert will be welcomed.  There will be a flag raising ceremony during the picnic, and activities are planned which range from softball to hula hoop contests, from horseshoes to volleyball.  After dark, kids (and others) will get to enjoy their own fireworks in a supervised area, then big kids fireworks will begin after that. Come and have a good time.
May, 2003  The fire department has received 4 full SCBAs and 8 bottles total, obtained by a REAP grant provided by the State of Oklahoma, along with additional new 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" soft line. SCBAs and hose obtained from Affordable Fire of Mannford, OK. A hose bed was installed on the 6x6 tanker truck, giving it attack capabilities in addition to its primary function of water supply. Handheld radios were reprogrammed to gain access to the new NWS weather radio station in Broken Bow, OK., on 162.450MHz.
Harold and Mildred Bird passed their General Class Amateur Radio exams, and Erman Sands and John Clawson passed their Technicians Class exams.
